KSOU Online MA in Sanskrit

The distance MA in Sanskrit of Kerala State Open University is a course that delves into the Sanskrit Literature and is delivered through distance mode. The duration of the course is two years. Students who wish to learn the Sanskrit language will be suitable for this degree. The classes for the course can be flexibly attended and offer an opportunity to working professionals or those who can’t pursue for regular degree for various to complete their studies. 

The course covers classical Sanskrit works, which can be in the form of poetry, prose, drama, or philosophy. It aims to create an interest in and awareness of India's long-standing tradition of literary and intellectual achievement. The first year of the course deals with Sanskrit poetry and prose, studying logic and grammar, and then being exposed to an introduction to Indian philosophy and literary aesthetics. Poetry, prose, logic, and grammar provide a solid foundation in Sanskrit and what the tradition has to offer. The second year of the program consists of sacred and historical Sanskrit texts. Also, texts such as the Vedas, Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita, as well as the Arthashastra and Smritis, are studied for the entire year. The examination pattern of KSOU consists of internal assessment and end-term examination which are divided according to the weightage of marks they carry individually, and they are combined and evaluated at the end of every semester. Internal assessment carries 20-30% of weightage which is decided by the university and a notice is circulated to the students through their official website the students can submit their internal assessment online or at the dedicated regional study center allotted by the university.
