KSOU PhD In Environmental Science

KSOU's PhD in Environmental Science is a research-based course intended to make scholars successful researchers, academics, and professionals in environmental sciences. The course strictly follows the University Grants Commission (UGC) Minimum Standards and Procedures for the Award of Ph.D. Degree as per 2016 Guidelines to ensure that it is up to national and international academic standards.

The curriculum emphasizes providing scholars with superior research abilities through a sequential combination of coursework, seminars, and the dissertation process. Major topics are Research Methodology, a Cognate Subject related to the scholar's research interest, Research Publication and Ethics, the Area of Specialization, and a Viva Voce for final examination.

Admission is usually at the level of a relevant master's degree with passing marks. Candidates have to pass an entrance test and interview according to UGC and KSOU rules. Minimum time to complete is three years, maximum six years.

The students can also opt for an online DBA(Doctorate of Business Administration). This program is specially designed for the working professionals who wants to earn a Dr. title but without leaving their jobs. An online DBA is equivalent to a PhD and it take at least 3 to 5 years to get completed.

Before applying for a PhD in Environmental Science, the candidates must know the eligibility criteria for it. Karnataka State Open University has set some admission requirements that are highlighted below:

• Applicants must have completed a Master's degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or grade B in the UGC 7-point scale.
• The students whose M.Phil. dissertation has been examined but are waiting for viva voce may apply for the PhD program in the same university.
• Candidates having an M.Phil degree from an Indian or foreign institute recognized by a recognized Agency are eligible.
• The PhD course adheres to UGC rules and KSOU ordinances with equivalence to regular universities.

There is no EMI option available at KSOU but the fee of every program is affordable and pocket-friendly. Instead of EMI options, KSOU offers various scholarships and financial aid to students from minorities, tribal welfare departments, and so on. 

The program has a theoretical and methodological emphasis on research design, data collection and data analysis. It includes three courses on Research Methodology, Cognate Subject specialization, Research Publication and Ethics, and one specialization relevant to the student's research focus which will carry a viva voce. Above and beyond the courses, the syllabus is to the value of 12 credits, consisting of 165 hours of formal and informal learning, which is to comprised of lecture/workshop style classes, seminars and independent study. The structure is such that the experience will enable students to balance both theoretical and practical emphases of engaging in effective research in the environment, scholarly publishing and practical contributions towards environmental issues and solutions.

The examination pattern of KSOU consists of internal assessment and end-term examination which are divided according to the weightage of marks they carry individually, and they are combined and evaluated at the end of every semester. Internal assessment carries 20-30% of weightage which is decided by the university and a notice is circulated to the students through their official website the students can submit their internal assessment online or at the dedicated regional study center allotted by the university.
